My wife and I are just days away from leaving for Svalbard, Norway. On route, we’ll detour through Amsterdam, Bruges, Brussels, and Helsinki. It’s the longest vacation I’ve ever taken, and I hope to return with many wonderful memories and wildlife shots of polar bears.
As promised, my editor completed his work and delivered his notes. Honestly, I was expecting more—dreading it really—but he liked the story and had some really great things to say about The Moon The Sun Forgot. There’s nothing like good constructive criticism. I’ve got ideas coursing through my brain. I don’t expect any major changes—its more about tightening certain things and ramping up the tension in areas that could use a boost. My favourite part of receiving feedback is being unexpectedly inspired to travel down a creative avenue I would’ve never taken had it not been for the criticism. I’m excited to begin work, if not a little intimidated. I’ve never had a deadline like this. And while I’m not a procrastinator and tend to get things done earlier than not, I have a nagging doubt that I may not be able to keep my promised timeline for delivering my final draft. I’m sure that’ll change the moment I open my laptop on the flight to Amsterdam. But until then, I’ll have to live with that uncertainty, relegating it to background noise as I concentrate on packing and prepping the house and our pets for a long absence. Fortunately, a good friend of mine will be housesitting so I can concentrate on vacationing and writing, thus leaving any worries about home and pets behind.
I’ll do my best to post photos whenever possible and provide updates on how the writing’s going.
Ever forward.
